The Weighty Interest in Eating Animals
In certain circumstances, when it's tied to a sense of community, blowing up the giraffe or eating the meat does seem weighty enough to say that it's not obviously wrong. The only realistic reason most of us eat meat then is for the taste, which isn't a weighty interest. When you bring in the issue of crime reduction, I think that muddies the waters because then we do have a weighty interests at stake. So even if we sort of let accept that those can be justifiable reasons for eating meat, it doesn't justify nearly as much meat eating as many people engage in.
