Captain William Kidd's New York Adventures
In 1699, Captain William Kidd was back in the Caribbean and setting in motion a plan that he hoped would save him from the hangman's news. He made the four-month voyage from Madagascar to arrive on the shores of Hispaniola,. His crew, once 150 strong, now numbered just 15, including some boys and a pair of enslaved men. And he gone from a flotilla of three vessels to just one, the Cada merchant. The Ruperal was sold for cash, and the leaky adventure galley had been abandoned back on St. Marie's in the Indian Ocean.
