The idea that prompt engineering is needed is itself interesting because it tells us that our models are not quite aligned. If our models were perfectly aligned, then we could give them an instruction and they would just fricking follow that instruction. And in any case, the automation of prompt engineering as well is kind of another direction in which you could expect that to become less and less important over time.
