The Carbon Impact of Traditional Burials

Rokus Wake looks at the climate impact of traditional burials. The worst choice is a mahogany brass coffin, which releases 40kg of CO2. Cotton shrouds are four times worse as they contain less biomass. Cremation can be cheaper than burial in many countries and cultures. But urbanisation has led to more bodies being buried in shallow graves.
