The Politics of Foreign Films in China
China's classification system is a simple pass or not pass one, basically. If it passes a five-year-old child, consider it. There's always an anxiety about the kinds of things that make it into categories of 15 plus 16 plus here and would be considered to risque as well sometimes. I'm always quite surprised how much violence is thought to be fine for five-year old children in China to watch. Those are the sorts of things that they will be concerned about. They will, of course, be anxious about anything that could be perceived as derogatory towards China or Chinese people or anything like that.
