The Importance of Stepping Back
The artist who only looks at little areas and doesn't see the whole picture is going to suffer. Matisse said that every element in a design is there for a good reason. A student of mine was focusing on the lace of the chair, not the salt and pepper shaker. They don't realize those are two visual elements that have to be in the cohesive whole.
