Introduction

Rome fought vie, long an economic, political and military rival. After years of avoiding conflict because they were stretched too thin, the romans finally felt secure enough to challenge their northern rival openly. There were three basic points of economic conflict that could not be resolved peacefully. One had to be eliminated or both would die. Finally Rome's population was expanding, but its territory was expanding in a more equitable manner.
