Cromwell worked hard and became closely associated with the Puritan factions in Parliament. He gave speeches that were forceful, even violent, and highly emotional. Cromwell himself was a tireless self-promoter; he thought thereby he was promoting the aims of God. His friends made sure that he received a disproportionate share of credit in the papers.
