The Politics of Cannabis Legalization
In the years immediately prior to and certainly since legalization, very few Canadians would have gone to jail specifically for a single cannabis possession related offense. Those who stood to reap the highest of cannabis legalization in terms of direct involvement in the industry have overwhelmingly been white and male. The data that we have available to us suggests as was part of the intention of the act that criminalization arrests and charges for example simple possession are our way way down from the tens of thousands on 50,000 over several decades leading up to legalization.
