The Mail Rat and the Clockmaker

The clockmaker spends his time working at his desk. His small eyes focused on tiny gears. He hasn't stepped outside in ages. At noon, the mail rat enters with a jingle. How's the route treating you? Clyde says knowing an amusing anecdote will follow. Just a letter today, he adds, handing a slim envelope to Clyde. Sir, Clyde says, uneasiness creeping into his voice. It's another letter from your brother. The word urgent, scrawled next to the address. A puzzled look clouded his features. My brother is ill. I must go at once.
