The Effect of Groundwater on the Earth's Tilt

Scientists have calculated that 2,150 gigatons of water has been taken from underground between 1993 and 2010. That's an Olympic-sized swimming pool for every 10 people on the planet. The redistribution of water is having the same effect on the Earth's axis - 31 inches to be precise. It made me think of another source discovered in the unlikeliest of places under the Sahara Desert: a mighty ocean of water.
