He goes to Gallipoli, survives Gallipoli and indeed marks himself out as a leader. He's decorated, comes back to England for about nine weeks, resumes his life. And then at some point he's sent to the Somme,. And at the Somme, he and his contingent are asked to go over the top. And they do. And he gets killed. It must be the most awful thing that could happen to you that I can conceive of is being in the Army in the First World War. Knowing that your chances of survival is quite low. Yeah. Was his music popular in its day? No, not really. Well he was only 35 when he died.
