In the gilded age, your verage person is looking around and saying, ok, so i work every day. I don't have any wealth. Here i'm seeing one person gain a lot of wealth. But underneath the service here is this another sense of alienation, which is, i now have absolutely no control over anything that i make. So you see in this not just the sense of being lost in the world, but imagine that you work every day and you're a farmer. What happens? You own the thing you produce. In our modern world, we've largely reconciled ourselves to the fact that that's something we're going to do on a house project on the week
