I had never read Habermas before. It's the most interesting thing that I've enjoyed the least reading in my life. The systematic, synoptic thing he's trying to do would certainly appeal to a person of a certain age. He says we are specifically not just receptacles for linguistic ideas; it's more like society and the life world made up of sedimentations of language.
