Aristotle's Scheme of Principles
Aristotle argues that theories based on only a single principle are too simple. His scheme reveals that the drive toward simplification was already a light motif of early greek thought. Aristotle also faults two principal theories for being too simple. If we have only two contrary principles, they will just cancel each other out.
