The Importance of Walking Around Internet Shutdowns
Colin Warhurst is a technology expert with the BBC's Blue Room, which looks at how consumers find, consume, create and interact online. He says internet shutdowns could be considered a subset of what we're calling the splintinet. There are various reasons for wanting to create such splintinets - some have their roots in commerce or governments but others come from tech-savvy countries like China. It doesn't matter if you physically unplug a bunch of computers somewhere else because there's other point-to-point connections that don't matter as much.
