The President of the United States Is in Selma, Alabama to Commemorate the Bloody Sunday March
This year marks the 58th anniversary of the violent clash between civil rights activists and white police officers in Selma, Alabama. That day peaceful demonstrators led by the late John Lewis were brutally beaten by law enforcement officers. The video was shown on the national news and at the time it helped galvanize support for the civil rights movement. It eventually would lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Reverend Al Sharpton: "We don't believe in demonstrating for demonstration's sake"
