It seems like the industrial revolution to try and explain that event, it's very messy. It's not obvious that it was just linked to being able to sustain larger populations ultimately. If you just squint the curve, it looks plausible. But it does really feel like the world in 1950 was not just a growing faster version of the world in 1000 AD. And some step change did happen.
