The Ethics of Authenticity
Romanticism's emphasis on feelings is disconnected from the Enlightenment's emphasis on reason. The notion of authenticity has become paramount, hasn't it? All of us now tend to define our identity by internal feelings, even if those internal feelings aren't sexualized. We are a Freudian society. Happiness must be sought along the path of sexual relations and we make genital eroticism the central ambition of our life.
