Is There a Gender Dynamic in the Movie?
Ripley's underwear scene is the only reference to gender in the movie. The sexual encounter between riply and alic was also taken out because it was 'distracting' But over all, i think the choice is doing something thematic. It's kind of speaking into the character's survival story as a woman. I'm sure that there was sexism happening on set - you know people not loving sgorny weaver? And i'm sure that antagonism wasn't just directed at me but towards everyone else too. You get a glimpse at all the factors that go into a movie getting made.
