The China Challenge and the Obama Administration in 2023?
There was quite a bit of policy continuity between the Bush administration and the Obama administration. But clearly, I think since the Obama and Bush administration left office, the challenges presented by China's rise have begun to outweigh the opportunities. We have seen Xi Jinping centralizing the Chinese Communist Party control in a way not seen since Mao Zedong inserting the role of the CCP in virtually every element of Chinese society on the domestic front. They've ramped up assertive actions in the region. Foreign policy known previously as biting your time and hiding your capabilities has gone away.
