Is Devotional Art Spiritual?

Great art inhabits the mysterious place between life and death. And if that is not spiritual, I don't know what is. Rothko said of his work: If it is spiritual to you, then it isspiritual to you. What I am saying about the art in the contemporary collections... there is no reference to spirituality or very little reference to the spirituality. It's all interpreted in terms of society and how people see themselves in relation to others.
