If you're looking at financial return the top 20 majors in terms of career long wage income all have the words engineering mathematics or economics in the title. Over the course of a 40 year career someone with a major in child and family studies can expect to earn adjusted for inflation less than half a million dollars. That's over the entirety of a working lifetime. If you wanted be a geek and do the rate of return you're talking about a 15 to 20 percent rate of return on that quarter million dollar investment. It's a tremendous investment.
