Family History Research
Literacy is one of the major roadblocks that I had to overcome. When you start down this road of family history research, throw literacy out the window because your ancestors did. They spelled phonetically. And if you're looking at certain records, say census records, it's not even the responsibility of the person being interviewed to get the spelling. The spellings often comes from what the enumerator hears. Do the research and make sure you still got the right family then move forward.
