The Role of Hormones in Adolescent Brain Plasticity

Hormones, when you are a little fetus in utero, sort of set up that basic patterning of maleness and femaleness. In females, estrogen causes in some parts of the brain those little buds to kind of flourish and then fall away. Estrogen is really interesting because obviously in females, it cycles monthly. If you're not on the pill, you're not pregnant all the way from puberty through menopause.
