The Importance of Empiricism

A single instance of the oracle being wrong, a single empirical episode like that is not going to be enough to discard the world picture. Not anymore than if I fire a cannonball from a cannon and the calculation that I made where it lands is different by 10%. This is like Lakota Shwir the nomilies, right? But in the case of science, there's more reliability and deferring to this whole system of belief and hundreds, thousands of years of people doing science.
