The Origins of Isidor
Isidor wrote a book called On the Nature of Things for Cisabut, the Visigothic King. He describes the four elements and their associated properties. Most of his information likely came from the Latin encyclopedias. But Isidor placed much greater weight on symbolism in his work. A century later, beat a monk in time-mouth northern England wrote his own encyclopedia. In it, he follows a similar structure to Isidor but gives explanations derived from ancient authors. Beat's version describes almost exactly the same phenomena such as phases of the moon, eclipses, the order of the planets and the four elements.
