Marco Polo and the Great Khan
Marco Polo would spend a lot of time at the court of Kooplai Khan in Chengdu and Khan Balik. The palace had more than 400 rooms and a hall that could hold 6,000 people. Marco describes how some of the Khan's most important advisors and lords received beautiful robes with hundreds of pearls sewn into them. Kublai Khan had 22 sons by his four wives, plus 25 other sons by his concubines.
