In 1937, just three years before Crowley contacted Parsons, he'd been in Germany when Hitler banned all occult groups. Carl Garmer had found himself in a concentration camp, but he was eventually released and he immigrated to America. Eventually though, Germer settled into life in New York and was acting as Crowley's representative in America. He decided to act as a personal guru to Jack Parsons and implied that if Parsons accepted his tutelage, he would soon be introduced to Alistair Crowley himself.
