How to Make Your Verbs Less Regular
Most languages of Australia have multiple verb classes where their tense and aspect marking have different shapes. This is probably a result of the fact that there were six, only six or seven consonants that a verb stem could end in. So it was a perfectly regular looking agglutative system in the distant past but now every language in Australia has picked and choose their own way to go.
