How to Choose a First Line Anti-Hypertensive

The guidelines suggest a whole host of different agents, all with quite good evidence. Most patients will end up being on at least two anti-hypertensives during their life. And so single pill combinations is a great way to accomplish this. Really what this all comes down to, I think, and what I do in practice is most of the time, pick an agent that I think is going to have a reasonable blood pressure effect for that patient.
