The Cost of Artificial Intelligence
The possibility of being able to run these models locally on your own machine with the relatively low computational requirements seems like it's on the horizon. Even open AI is GPT API is trivially cheap at this point, and I'm wondering if they are simply just trying to have that be a loss leader for whatever their business model is or if they can actually afford to keep that API at such a low cost. Our intelligence is not trivially cheap. It requires us to evolve in a way that makes our birthing more dangerous than it is for most mammals.
