Writing for an Audience
In today's world, when we can get an audience for so many things, I think there's not much of a reason at all for our children to write with no audience. Writing for an actual audience is going to be much more productive and much more motivating than just writing for your teacher who's going to mark a letter grade on it or stick it in a notebook that you never again open in your life. Next suggestion is make sure that your child is writing about something that he cares about. There perhaps is an element in which writing is a discipline about something that you don't care about but in general, write from a place of caring.
