Abigail Scott Dunaway was one of the first people on the Oregon Trail in 1851. Her husband suffered a farming accident, so she ended up having to support the family. She started a women's rights newspaper called The New Northwest and became the first woman to vote in Portland. Our emailer is actually from Portland, Oregon.
