We don't use technology in a vacuum. There's all kinds of underlying forces that influence our attention. The web mimics the way that human memory is structured, because we think in terms of associations. So when we go on a Wikipedia page or when we're surfing the internet, there's so many entry points into our mind's network and before you know it, we're just off on this joyride through the internet.
