How We Were Treated

Barbara Bush: When my mother would take us shopping for school clothes, the first thing shed say to me is, barbara, go use the bathroom. And i didn't understand that so until we were downtown one day in the store, and she had picked out a few items,. She got very upset with me, because we had to put those things back. So when we would leave to the store, mamma would grab my hand and i say, mama, i'm a big girl. You don shut up. This was how we were treated.
