In the 19 forties, more than 16 million americans served in world war II. There were thousands of black soldiers and volunteers who were active on the front lines. The united states government passed the service man's readjustment act of 19 forty four,. better known as the g i bill. It was meant to create a support system for soldiers returning home that included important infera structure like hospitals. But it also included the chance to go to college tuition free up to 500 dollars.
