How to Define the Worst Case Scenario
You can sort of ask yourself, what is the worst perfect storm that I can imagine of conditions? And maybe the answer is, you've got some wicked non-normality. You have an ethical responsibility to build a study that has a fighting chance to detect an effect if an effect really exists. The framework gives us the ability to understand how robust our estimates are and hope for the best but plan for the worst.
