A 1913 news article celebrated cleaning up Malaga Island. King McKinney and Jerry Murphy were lucky. They rafftered their houses to lots on the mainland at Fippsburg and Meadowbrook. Not so fortunate was Robert Tripp's family, who sailed up the new Red Meadows River in search of a lot but were prevented from landing by prosperous Christian people and town authorities. Caught literally between the well-known rock and a hard place, the family hosared up some trees on the tiny bush island.
