What Makes Something Glamorous Has to Change Over Time

What was glamorous maybe a couple of hundred years ago, would have been a sort of modern city. Now the world has had a lot of urbanization, and so moving people back out into going back out to the countryside for a little while is what would seem glamorous. These things really do change depending on how the world itself changes. And also that what's glamorous to one person won't be glamorous to some one else because the circumstances, again, matter quite a lot.

I love this idea that what makes something glamorous has to change over time, because the circumstances of our lives change all the time. And also that what's glamorous to one person won't be glamorous to some one else, because the circumstances, again, matter quite a lot. What i thought of was that, you know, if you'd showed somebody in a picture like that, i don't know, a hundred or 200 years ago, in addition to just being confused about what it was they were being shown, it would, it would have just been less interesting. Because people did live in more rural environments back then. It was easy to find serene settings. What was glamorous maybe a couple of hundred years ago, would have been a sort of modern city. Iwhat we think of now is a modern city life. I don't mean like, you know, factory smoke and things like that. You know, like an exciting setting in a city where you are, in fact, maybe harried all the time, and you are busy, and you have this kind of interesting set of choices for what to do with your jobs and to choose your friends and that kind of thing. That the urban environment would have been what was glamorous back then. But of course, now the world has had a lot of urbanization, and so moving people back out into going back out to the countryside for a little while, is what would seem glamorous. Now, these things really do change depending on how the world itself changes. Yes,

you see that in a lot of the golden age hollywood movies from the twenties and thirties. Because even though, obviously in the 19 twenties and thirties there were big cities, but a lot of the audience was living in rural areas or in small towns. And for them, the portrayal of a very idealized manhattan life, for paris life, those penthouses, i would have seemed really exciting. And the same would have been true for the typical person who was, in fact living in, say, brooklyn. Because it would be the lives of the rich. So that a lot of those early, as i say, golden age movies, the movies that made the the hollywood studio system famous, were about the lives, the exciting lives of rich people in urban settings. Because that it lot of glamorous.
