Most of the time, it's either a top down or left to right. I typically don't like tables on page one. And i also find that report layouts is more than just one page. You have the kind of thing about it in the context of multiple pages as well. So that first page, the over view page, is typically where everyone wants to see a little bit of details about all the things.
