The Impact of Long Term Monitoring on AFib and Non-Sustained Vt

Until recently we have used a 24 hour, maybe a 48 hour ECG monitor to look for Vt. Detecting AFib is also important because of the increased risk of clots and stroke. For AFib in the first 24 hours of monitoring only 6% of the 100 patients who had HCM had Hib detected. After 30 days that 6% only went to 10%. Non-sustained Vt was very different, longer monitoring made a big jump from 8% to 62%. 22% one in five patients were potentially reclassified in a higher risk category.
