The Western Warfare After the Fall of Rome
The West tried for in the four crusades, the fourth was a disaster because it was diverted to Constantinople and destroyed the city in 1204. It took 50 years to get it back and never recovered fully. The idea of a slave was SLAV was slaw. There were so many white, blue-eyed, blonde Christian slaves that slaw was a synonymous term for an indentured person. Westerners had never really ever experienced anything like the Janissaries under the Ottomans.
