How to Write a Good Song

The first thing that I would look for is what am I feeling when I've just turned the song on. How do I feel about it? Is there an emotional connection happening? Do you have a good hook? Good hook is important. And at least one moment of you saying, oh shit, I didn't realize it was going to go there. Only once is fine. That makes a good song and has replay value. Metal people always argue with me about it. I don't think a hook has to be vocals. It doesn't have to be. But it usually is,. especially if you want to reach people who aren't sort of just the core like extreme metal fan.
