Stomo Yamaguchi's Story

Stomo Yamaguchi was 1.9 miles, or 3 kilometers, from ground zero when the bomb went off in Hiroshima. He threw himself to the ground before the shockwaves hit him and his bandages were blown right off his body. His wife had been looking for an ointment at the time of the blast; she would have died if it weren't for her being in that exact spot. After the war, he took a job as an interpreter during the American occupation of Japan. Later became a teacher and finally went back to Mitsubishi to work on oil tankers.
