M, like most of the medos in our field predominantly use studies on untrained lifters. They find very frequently that one intervention is better than another. So even though you would expect just about anything to cause at least some hypertrophy for completely untrained folks, not everything works equally well. A suggests there may be some unknown mechanism of muscle hyperdrophy that we don't know about and aren't really looking for.
