The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces

The Maritime Self-Defense Forces Officer Candidate School is located on the island of Edajima. The old Imperial Army Officer Academy was in Tokyo's Ichigaya neighborhood, but has since been relocated to Kurume in northern Kyushu. Rivalies between the Army and Navy Officer Corps were a major political issue during the pre-war era. Indeed, the inability of the two service branches to work together was what both drove Japan into war with the United States in the first place, and what prolonged the China war into an endless quagmire.
