The book is more from her perspective. I heard she was hoping Rob Reiner would play the part. But a dumb reason why I think he wouldn't have worked is he's a super tall. All these things came from real life, which is a great way for writers to actually steal things. It's not necessarily that you're writing the story of how you had this tragic breakup or how you graduated from college and it's the bits that are the keys.
