Bakhmoot: A Small Town in Ukraine

Bakhmoot is a small town in Ukraine thousands of miles from the Middle East. It gets its name from a Turkic word for a horse, Bakhmat, which is derived from same Arabic word. This tells us that at one point long after Kivun-Rus, Bakhmoot was part of the Crimean Khanate, a Tata state. The Tatas were an indigenous population of Crimea and large parts of what is now the Donbas until Stalin carried out a genocide and forced deportations in the mid 20th century.
