Athens and the Thebans

The inhabitants of oropis, on the attic boetian border, fell into civil strife and exiled some of their citizens. The exiles attempted to return to their city by their own means, but eventually they turned to the thebans to send an army to assist them. Despite this, there are still some inscriptions from athens which continue to use the old attic spelling. This new system was also called the eucladean alphabet after the name of the arcon euclides who oversaw the decision.
